Publishing with Ridgeline
Publishing with Ridgeline means submitting to one of its three independently edited journals — Panorama Frontier Review, AI & Future Society, or the Journal of Engineering Systems & Applications — each of which reviews and decides on manuscripts through its own editorial board. What is common across the three, and what this guide describes, is the shared process: how a journal is chosen, what a submission needs to include, how peer review and revision work, and what happens between an editorial decision and a published, indexed article.
Choosing the Right Journal
Panorama Frontier Review is the broadest of the three, publishing multidisciplinary and frontier scholarship that does not require a fit inside a single established discipline. AI & Future Society is scoped to AI ethics, governance, regulation and the societal effects of intelligent systems. The Journal of Engineering Systems & Applications is scoped to engineering systems, applied sciences and technology-driven solutions with an implementation or applications component. What We Publish
Across the three journals, Ridgeline favors manuscripts describing a system, method or proposal that has been built, tested, deployed or rigorously modeled, over purely speculative discussion of where a field might be headed. This does not exclude theoretical or governance-oriented work — AI & Future Society in particular engages directly with anticipatory policy questions — but even there, the expectation is argument grounded in evidence: existing systems, documented incidents, or formally specified models. Negative and null results are welcome where the underlying study is rigorous; a well-conducted study showing an approach does not work, or works only under narrow conditions, is a legitimate contribution.
Manuscript Preparation
Each journal specifies its own formatting, reference style and required manuscript sections on its own site; those journal-specific requirements govern at submission. Article Types
Ridgeline journals generally accept original research articles, review articles, and shorter perspective or commentary pieces; AI & Future Society additionally welcomes policy-analysis contributions consistent with its governance focus. Which article types a given journal accepts, and any length or structure requirements attached to each, are set out on that journal's own site — confirm the specific type before formatting a submission.
Research Integrity Requirements
Every submission is expected to be original, properly cited, and free of undisclosed competing interests. Where a manuscript involves the use of generative AI tools in the research or writing process, that use should be disclosed at submission, consistent with the group's shared policy on AI use and disclosure. How a manuscript moves from submission to publication.
Initial Editorial Screening
An editor checks that the manuscript fits the journal's scope, is complete, and meets basic ethical and formatting requirements before it is sent for review. Manuscripts that fail screening are returned to the author without full peer review.
Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass screening are sent to independent reviewers, who assess methods, contribution and presentation and return written feedback that the editor uses to reach a decision.
Revision
Where revision is requested, authors respond to reviewer and editor comments and resubmit, typically with a point-by-point response describing how each comment was addressed.
Editorial Decision
The journal's editorial board reaches a final decision — acceptance, further revision, or rejection — based on the review and the author's response. The decision and its rationale are communicated to the author.
Production
Accepted manuscripts move through copyediting, typesetting and metadata preparation. Authors typically review proofs before an article is finalized for publication.
Open Access Publication
The article publishes open access under Creative Commons (CC BY) licensing, free to read, download and reuse from the day of publication, with no reader access fee.
DOI Registration
Each published article receives a Crossref DOI, registered under Panorama Scholarly Group's prefix 10.63802, giving it a permanent, resolvable citation record.
Discovery & Preservation
Published articles are indexed in Google Scholar and preserved for the long term in CLOCKSS and the PKP Preservation Network, so the record remains accessible independent of any single host.
Corrections and the Scholarly Record
Publication is not the end of a journal's responsibility for an article. Where an error is identified after publication, Ridgeline journals follow Panorama Scholarly Group's shared corrections and retractions policy, so the published record can be updated transparently rather than left silently incorrect — see Standards for how this applies.
Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for the accuracy of their manuscript, for disclosing competing interests and any generative-AI use, for securing any permissions required for third-party material, and for responding to reviewer and editor communication within the timelines the journal sets. Corresponding authors are additionally responsible for ensuring all listed co-authors have approved the submitted and any revised manuscript.
